Election Day - Monday, October 27, 2014

 

Nomination Period -January 2, 2014-September 12, 2014

Nominations may be filed by candidates with the Clerk prior to Nomination Day, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, excluding statutory holidays, from Thursday, January 2, 2014 to Thursday, September 11, 2014.

On Nomination Day (Friday, September 12, 2014), nominations may only be filed with the Clerk between the hours of 8:00am to 2:00pm.

 

 

Nomination Process

A Nomination Paper docForm1 must be filed in person by the candidate or by an agent.

The Nomination Paper must have original signatures.  The candidate may be required to show proof of identity and qualifications.

The prescribed nomination filing fee must be paid at the time of filing the nomination.   Payment to the municipality must be made by cash, certified cheque or money order.

The nomination filing fee is:

  • $200.00 for the office of head of council; and 
  • $100.00 for all other offices.

 

Qualifications for Municipal Office


A candidate for municipal office must, upon nomination, be a qualified municipal elector and fulfil all of the following requirements:

  • a resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old;
  • not legally prohibited from voting; and
  • not disqualified by an legislation from holding municipal office.

 

Who can vote in a Municipal Election

A person is entitled to be an elector at an election held in a local municipality, if on Election Day he or she is:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • residing in the local municipality or an owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • not otherwise prohibited from voting
